1927 NGC MS-62 Mexican 50 Pesos Gold Coin

The Mexican 50 Pesos gold coin is a monumental piece, larger and heavier than most one-ounce gold coins on the market. 

This coin, minted in celebration of Mexico's 100th anniversary of independence, was issued by the Bank of Mexico between 1921 and 1947. 

The Centenario gold coin, which contains 1.2057 ounces of gold-copper alloy, is a prized collector’s item and a symbol of national pride.

The Design

The obverse contains the Mexican Coat of Arms encircled by the inscription “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.”

The artistry illustrates the national eagle perched on a pear cactus devouring a rattlesnake, representing national independence from Spanish influence. 

The reverse portrays the Winged Victory, the angel of independence, with outstretched wings, holding broken chains and a laurel wreath as symbols of freedom. 

The accompanying engravings inform the coin’s face value, “50 PESOS,” its weight, “37.5 Gr,” metal content “ORO PURO,” the year of independence “1821” on the lower left, and the minting year on the right.
