1915 1 Austrian Gold Ducat Restrike
The coinage of Gold Ducats dates back to 1140 in Sicily, but its widespread acceptance in Europe turned this coin into a dominant currency for many years in various designs, weights, and sizes.
The Ducat, first issued by the Holland province in 1583 as a replica of the Hungarian Ducat, gained prominence. By the 1600s, Amsterdam's role as a global trade hub established the ducat as an international trading currency. Later, in the 1850s, the Austro-Hungarian Empire adopted it as a standard for gold trade.
The Austrian Mint discontinued regular production of Ducat Gold Coins during World War I. However, restrikes were occasionally minted from 1915 through the late 20th century.
