1908 NGC MS-67 $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin - No Motto - Wells Fargo Nevada Gold Hoard Label
The U.S. Mint introduced the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin in 1907 to replace the $20 Liberty Double Eagle.
Early issues of the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, minted in 1907 and the first half of 1908, are known as “No Motto” coins, as they lack the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the reverse side.
These coins, in particular, are St. Gaudens Double Eagles produced in 1908 without the referred motto. They were recently discovered from a Wells Fargo Nevada Gold Hoard, where they remained untouched all this time and submitted to NGC appraisal.
At SD Bullion, you acquire a 1908 $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin—No Motto, graded as MS-67 and sealed with the NGC Wells Fargo Nevada Gold Hoard Label.

The Design
The obverse showcases Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty design, in which Lady Liberty marches forward, representing national development. Her torch means enlightenment, and the olive branch is a peace symbol.
The Capitol Building is discreetly imprinted on the lower left, the word “LIBERTY” arches over the image while the sun's rays work as a backdrop, and the year of issuance is on the right.
In the reverse design, the bald eagle flies toward the sun. The inscriptions on this side are on top and read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWENTY DOLLARS.”
An NGC MS-67 coin
NGC stands for Numismatic Guaranty Company. It works independently from sovereign mints, attributing grades to coins based on the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
MS means Mint State and describes a coin with a business circulation coin format. 67 is the grade attributed to coins with sharp strikes with full, original luster, some minor contact marks, and a single, more noticeable but not detracting mark.
