1903 PCGS MS-66 $2.50 Liberty Quarter Eagle Gold Coin

The Liberty Quarter Eagle Coin was the official $2.50 circulating coin of the United States from 1840 to 1907.

Containing 0.12094 troy ounces of gold, they feature a distinguished design by Christian Gobrecht, which holds the record for the longest unchanged design in American gold coinage history.

Similar to other pre-1933 gold coins, many $2.50 Liberty Half Eagles disappeared during the economic crisis of the 1930s. With rising gold prices, these coins were confiscated, hoarded, and melted down for their gold content.

At SD Bullion, you can acquire 1903 $2.50 Liberty Quarter Eagle Gold Coins, sealed and certified by PCGS as an MS-66 sample.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-66 coin by PCGS;

  • Contains .12094 of actual gold content;

  • Produced by the US Mint;

  • Pre-1933 Gold Coin;

  • Holds a $2,50 face value and legal tender status;

  • The obverse features the Liberty Head design;

  • The reverse displays the Heraldic Eagle.

The Design

The obverse displays Lady Liberty’s bust wearing a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY." Her effigy is surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, with the year of mintage at the bottom.

The reverse showcases the Heraldic Eagle with outstretched wings, bearing the national shield on its chest and holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. It includes only the nation’s name and the coin’s face value.

A PCGS MS-66 Coin

PCGS—Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for mint state. It refers to a coin struck in the same format as a business circulation coin that remained uncirculated. Grade 66 indicates the coin may have contact marks and signs of wear and tear, but it is above average in quality of strike and preserved original mint luster.
