1897-S NGC MS-62 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin
The Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin served as the official $20 coin in the United States from 1850 to 1907. It was produced by the US Mint, which contained .9675 oz of gold, and designed by James B. Longacre, the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint.
During the economic downturn of the 1930s, many of these $20 Liberty Double Eagles disappeared as gold prices rose. The coins were confiscated, hoarded, and melted down for their gold content.
Some surviving $20 Liberty Double Eagles the San Francisco Mint issued bear the "S" mint mark.
You can find 1897-S $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins sealed and certified by NGC as MS-62 coins at SD Bullion.
