1894-O PCGS MS-61 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin
From 1838 to 1907, the U.S. Mint struck millions of $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins to serve as the nation’s primary $10 gold currency.
Each coin contains 0.4837 Troy oz of gold and features a timeless design by Christian Gobrecht.
Like other Pre-1933 U.S. gold coins, many Liberty Eagles were hoarded or melted during the Great Depression, drastically reducing their availability in today’s numismatic market.
The surviving ones that display an “O” mint mark identify the New Orleans Mint as its original issuer.
Today, SD Bullion offers 1894-O $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins, sealed and certified by PCGS as MS-61.

The Design
The $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin is also known as the “Coronet Eagle Gold Coin” because it depicts Lady Liberty wearing a coronet engraved with the word “LIBERTY.”
Thirteen stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, surround Liberty’s bust, and the year of mintage is displayed at the bottom.
On the reverse side, the Heraldic Eagle has the national shield on its chest, arrows and oak branches on its talons, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” inscribed on a banner above the eagle.
It also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value inscribed as “TEN D.” and the “O” mint mark.
A PCGS MS-61 Coin
Like other third-party services, PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) appraises coins, apart from sovereign mint, using the Sheldon Grading Scale to grade them from 1 to 70.
An MS-Mint State coin has the same format as a business coin. Grade 61 indicates that the coin’s mint luster may be diminished, with clusters of minor contact marks and noticeable hairlines.
