From 1839 to 1908, the U.S. Mint issued Liberty Head Half Eagles as the official $5 gold circulation coins.
Struck 0.2419 Troy oz of actual gold, they were designed by Christian Gobrecht, and are prized for their historic significance, regional mint marks, and long production run spanning nearly 70 years.
These coins circulated widely across the growing United States and were struck at multiple mint branches, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Carson City.
