1893 NGC MS-62 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin

From 1838 to 1907, the US Mint produced Liberty Eagle gold coins, which served as the $10 circulation currency in the United States in that period.

They contain .4837 oz of actual gold bullion and feature the design created by the third US Mint Chief Engraver, Christian Gobrecht, on both sides.

The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty was depicted wearing a coronet engraved with the word “LIBERTY,” encircled by Thirteen stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of mintage.

The Heraldic Eagle displayed on the reverse side has the national shield on its chest, arrows and oak branches on its talons, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” inscribed on a banner above the eagle. Encircling the image read the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the coin’s face value inscribed as “TEN D.”
