The Perth Mint crafted silver coins for the Lunar Series II from 2008 to 2019. The series' standard coin is the 1 Troy oz coin, made of 99.9% fine silver until 2017, when the mint started producing the coins as 99.99% fine.

The Coins’ Design

As a pattern, the obverse design is the same for all series coins. It consists of Queen Elizabeth II’s crowned bust, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, encircled by the coin’s issuance, face value, weight, purity, metal content, and “AUSTRALIA,” “ELIZABETH II.”

The reverse showcases the animal representing the Astrological sign of that year, its corresponding Chinese character, and the “P” mint mark identifying the Perth Mint.

The twelve animals that compose the Chinese Lunar Calendar displayed in the coins are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
