The Design

The California 3 Goldback features Harmonia, the embodiment of harmony, riding a powerful ocean wave along the state's iconic coastline. 

The surfing scene reflects California's deep connection to the Pacific Ocean and symbolizes the balance between humanity and nature. A dolphin swimming nearby represents cooperation, while Brown Pelicans soaring overhead highlight the state's rich coastal wildlife and natural beauty.

Additional details celebrate California's maritime heritage, including the recognizable Santa Monica Pier in the distance. Hidden ultraviolet artwork reveals a graceful sea turtle beneath the waves, paying tribute to the diverse marine life that inhabits the Pacific coast.

Completing the design is the inspiring inscription, "Courage means you don't let fear stop you," reinforcing the note's message of resilience, harmony, and respect for the natural world.

The first inscription refers to the PMG’s grade, which reads “LIMITED EARLY RELEASE.” The “3” monetary denomination is engraved beside “CALIFORNIA GOLDBACKS.” The note’s weight and metal content are at the bottom.

The note displays design elements on the obverse, leaving the reverse blank and mirroring only those on the obverse.

A Goldback, also known as a foil note, is a voluntary regional currency used for trade and payment in select areas of the United States. These beautifully crafted notes are currently issued in Utah, Nevada, New Hampshire, Wyoming, South Dakota, Florida, Oklahoma, and Arizona.
