The Obverse Design
The obverse design displays Lady Liberty marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The march symbolizes the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment. The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.
It reproduces the 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
Reverse Design Type 1
The type 1 design refers to the original reverse, which features a family of Bald Eagles, with a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male one perches their nest.
The inscriptions on this side are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value reading “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS.”
Reverse Design Type 2
Type 2 corresponds to the new reverse design, created by Jennie Norris and released in 2021 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program. The design showcases the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze, highlighted hooked beak, and the same inscriptions of the original design.
A PCGS MS-70 coin
Third-party services like PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service work independently from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins according to the Sheldon Scale, which ranks them from 1 to 70, based on their condition.
MS or Mint State is a piece with the same format as a widespread circulation coin that remained uncirculated. Grade 70 is attributed to flawless coins.
Random Year Purchase
SD Bullion ensures authentic 1 oz American Gold Eagles, sealed in PCGS slabs and graded as MS-70 samples. However, according to our inventory availability at the time of shipping, they’ll be from a random mint year.
