The 1/4 oz US Gold Eagle is one of the fractional sizes that comprise the American Gold Eagle series. It consists of a 22k gold coin with legal tender status and a standard design featuring Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle.
Today, SD Bullion offers 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins sealed by the PCGS and certified as perfect MS-70 coins. However, they may be of several mint years, randomly selected from our inventory.
Coin Highlights
- Certified, encapsulated, and graded by PCGS as an MS-70 coin;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Contains 1/4 oz of .9167 fine gold;
- With anti-counterfeiting reeded edges;
- Bears legal tender status and a USD 10 denomination;
- The obverse features Lady Liberty;
- Original or new reverse designs;
- Of varied mint years.
The Obverse Design
On the obverse, Lady Liberty marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The march symbolizes the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment. The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.
It is an inspired design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin.
Reverse Design Type 1
The original reverse showcases a family of Bald Eagles, with a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male perches on their nest.
It is supplemented by the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value, which reads “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD—10 DOLLARS.”
Reverse Design Type 2
The 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program updated the reverse design in 2021. Jennie Norris introduced the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze, highlighted hooked beak, and the same inscriptions of the original design.
A PCGS MS-70 coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service, like other third-party services, appraises coins using the Sheldon Scale and grades them from 1 to 70 based on their condition.
MS or Mint State is a piece with the same format as a widespread circulation coin that remained uncirculated. Grade 70 is attributed to flawless coins.
Random Year Purchase
Clients are guaranteed to receive authentic 1/4 oz American Gold Eagles, sealed and certified by PCGS as MS-70 coins. However, they may be of varied mint years, according to our inventory availability at the time of shipping.
