The US Mint produced Indian Gold Eagle Coins from 1907 to 1919 and then irregularly until 1933 through several of its branches.
It was the official $10 currency in the US, with legal tender status, .48375 oz of actual gold content, and Augustus Saint-Gaudens' design.
Because of its gold content, several Indian Gold Eagle coins were hoarded or melted down during the economic crisis of the 1930s, which led to a considerable decrease in the number of coins available in the market.
Today, you can find 1926 $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coins, sealed in PCGS slabs and certified as MS-64 coins at SD Bullion.
Coin Highlights
- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-64 coin by PCGS;
- Contains .48375 oz of actual gold content;
- Produced by the US Mint;
- Issued in the Philadelphia Mint;
- Pre-1933 gold coin;
- Bears legal tender status and a USD 10 face value;
- Both sides feature Saint-Gauden’s design.
The Design
Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed both sides of these coins.
On the obverse, Lady Liberty pays tribute to Native American heritage by wearing a feathered headdress engraved with the word “LIBERTY.” The year of issuance is engraved beneath Liberty’s image.
On the reverse, the Bald Eagle stands on an arrow wrapped around an olive branch in the middle of the two engraved mottos, “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM." The nation’s name, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” arches on top while the coin’s face value of “TEN DOLLARS” is at the bottom.

Third-party services, like PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service, use the Sheldon Grading Scale to appraise coins, grading them from 1 to 70 based on their condition.
MS stands for Mint State, referring to coins issued in the same format as a business circulation coin. 64 is the grade given to coins with average luster, noticeable, light scuff marks, or defects but with attractive overall quality.
