Between 1840 and 1907, the official $2.50 circulating coins in the United States were the Liberty Quarter Eagle Coins, minted by the US Mint and containing .12094 oz of gold.

Christian Gobrecht's design imprinted on these coins remained unchanged for 67 years, making it the longest-lasting design in American coinage history.

The inscriptions on the reverse are limited to the nation’s name and the coin’s face value.
