PCGS MS-62 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin

From 1838 to 1907, the US Mint produced Liberty Eagle gold coins, which served as the $10 circulation currency in the US in that period.

They contain .4837 oz of actual gold content and feature Christian Gobrecht’s designs on both sides.

In 1899, the US Mint delivered approximately 1,262,000 units in the market, issued only in the Philadelphia Mint.

However, like other Pre-1933 Gold Coins, the $10 Liberty Eagle was severely affected by the Great Depression. Many gold coins were hoarded and melted down because of their content, almost disappearing from the numismatic world.

Today, you can acquire at SD Bullion 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins sealed and certified by PCGS as MS-62 samples.

Coin Highlights

  • Contains .4837 oz of actual gold content;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Issued in the Philadelphia branch;
  • Pre-1933 Gold Ccoin;
  • Holds a USD 10 face value and legal tender status;
  • Features Christian Gobrecht’s design on both sides.

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty wearing a coronet engraved with the word “LIBERTY.” Because of that, some may call this coin the “Coronet Eagle Gold Coin.”The image is encircled by thirteen stars, representing the Thirteen original colonies, and the year of mintage is displayed at the bottom.

The reverse design showcases the Hearladic Eagle with the national shield on its chest, arrows and oak branches on its talons, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on a banner above the eagle. The word “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the coin’s face value inscribed as “TEN D.” encircle the whole image.

A PCGS MS-62 Coin

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter and grades them, 1 to 70, according to their condition.

MS or Mint State designates a coin in the format of a business circulation coin. Grade 62 suggests that the coin may present marks and hairlines in focal areas but with an acceptable overall appearance.
