PCGS MS-62 $1 Liberty Head Gold Coin Type I - Random Year
From 1849 to 1854, the United States Mint issued $1 Liberty Head Gold Coins as the nation’s official dollar coin for circulation. Each coin contains .0484 Troy oz of gold and showcases a design by James Longacre.
Over its production period, the $1 Liberty Head coin underwent three design changes. The Type I version was minted for just six years before being succeeded by the Indian Princess design. Consequently, well-preserved Type I coins are relatively rare and highly valued by collectors.
SD Bullion offers $1 Liberty Head Gold Coins of Type I, graded as MS-62 by PCGS, of varied mintage, randomly selected from our inventory at the time of shipping.

A PCGS MS-62 coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.
An MS coin indicates a Mint State coin, that is, a coin issued as a business circulation one. Grade 62 suggests that the coin may present marks and hairlines in focal areas, noticeable scuff marks, and below-average planchet quality. But acceptable overall appearance.
