The Design

The obverse showcases Lady Liberty wearing a fanciful feathered headdress inscribed “LIBERTY.” It is an inspired version of the Venus Accroupie or Crouching Venus, a sculpture displayed at the Philadelphia Museum at the time.

The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” encircle the bust. 

The reverse design features the coin’s denomination and year of issuance surrounded by the “agricultural wheat,” which comprises cotton, corn, tobacco, and wheat.
