NGC/PCGS MS-70 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin - Random Year
The American Gold Eagles are the official gold bullion coins of the US. They premiered in 1986 with its silver counterpart, the American Silver Eagles.
In addition to the debuting one-ounce gold coin, the US Mint released fractional Gold Eagles the same year, including a 1/2 oz 22k gold coin.
These coins hold legal tender status, have a face value of 25 US Dollars, and feature the standard element designs that honor the basic values established by the Founding Fathers in the US Constitution.

The Obverse Design
Gold Eagles’ obverse reproduces Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design.
It features Lady Liberty marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The march symbolizes the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment. The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.
Reverse Design Type 1
The original reverse design showcases a family of Bald Eagles, in which the female eagle cherishes its hatchling under her wing while the male one perches their nest.
The inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is engraved on top, while the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” flank the image. The coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value is at the bottom and reads: “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS.”
Reverse Design Type 2
In 2021, the US Mint released a new reverse design created by Jennie Norris to celebrate the 35 years of the American Eagles Program. Norris’ design showcases the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and highlighted hooked beak.
The inscriptions are the same as the original design. They feature the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the nation’s name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "25 DOLLARS 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD," referring to the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content.
An NGC or PCGS MS-70 Coin
The PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service and the NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company are third-party grading services that work independently from sovereign mints to appraise and grade coins based on their condition using the Sheldon Grading Scale.
The scale ranks coins from 1 to 70. For both services, an MS-Mint State designation means that a particular coin has the same format as a business coin, which remained uncirculated. Grade 70 is attributed to flawless coins.
