These coins served as the official $10 currency in the US during that period; hence, they are legal tender. They contain .48375 ounces of gold and feature Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ design.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a headdress made of feathers, representing the Native American heritage, inscribed “LIBERTY.” The year of issuance lies beneath Liberty’s effigy.

The reverse portrays the majestic eagle standing on an arrow wrapped around an olive branch. It is also engraved with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the coin’s face value.

In some strikes, the reverse design may also feature the “IN GOD WE TRUST” mottos and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service and NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraise and grade coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business sample format that remained uncirculated. An MS-63+ graded coin is slightly better than an MS-63 one. It may show minor scuffs and hairlines, but the design is still overall lustrous.
