The Mexican Mint is the oldest in the Americas. With over 500 years of experience producing iconic pieces of silver and gold. The Mint’s most successful collection is the Gold Libertad Series, but the Gold Pesos can be a valuable asset in the Mint’s catalog.
The 5 pesos gold coin production started in 1905 along with other denominations: 2, 2.5, 10, 20, and 50. The Mexican Mint stopped minting the 5 pesos coins in 1955. The strikes produced after that got limited series. Most of them carry the last date of issuance: 1955.
Coin Highlights

The Design
The obverse is a portrait of Miguel Hidalgo, an important figure in the Mexican independence war. He was a pastor who led an army of civilians and farmers against the Spanish forces. On this side, the inscriptions are: “CINCO PESOS”, “M”, a star, and the mint year.
The reverse displays the Mexican Coat of Arms. In the image, the eagle represents the nation defeating a rattlesnake, the Spanish figure. The inscription “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” on the upper rim sorrounds the image.
Gold 5 pesos from Random Years
The 5 pesos gold coin had its final official strike in 1955, and after that, the series got limited editions. For example, the strike produced from 2000 to 2009 counted 89.000 units, and all of them received the date of 1955 engraved on their reverse side.
