The Design

The design presents “Aeternitas”, the personification of eternity, inspired by Utah’s extraordinary prehistoric heritage and the discovery of the Utahraptor near Moab. The composition reflects the vast passage of time and the ancient history preserved within Utah’s distinctive landscapes.

“Aeternitas” wears Alpha and Omega symbols on her cuff, representing the beginning and the end, while sand flowing through her fingers and an hourglass emphasize the continuous movement of time. A Utahraptor skull appears prominently in the design, honoring one of the state’s most significant paleontological discoveries.

Above her, a falcon soars through the present-day sky, while hidden UV details reveal pterodactyls and a Utahraptor, creating a visual connection between Utah’s ancient past and its living landscape. A blooming yucca plant adds another symbol of resilience, flourishing despite the harsh desert environment.

The inscription “Life is eternal.” reinforces the note’s central theme, connecting the distant prehistoric past with the continuing passage of time.

The “10” denomination is inscribed near “UTAH GOLDBACKS,” with the gold weight and content noted at the bottom, along with the inscription “Life is eternal.”

The note displays design elements on the obverse, leaving the reverse blank and mirroring only those on the obverse.

A Goldback, also known as a foil note, is a voluntary regional currency used for trade and payment in select areas of the United States.
