Gold Aurum 24k California 5 Goldback Note

The Aurum Mint delivers another strike from its renowned Goldback Notes Series: The California 5 Goldback Note.

Goldback notes are beautifully crafted, voluntary local currencies made from 24-karat gold, accepted by some merchants in select U.S. states for their intrinsic and perceived value, even though they are not considered Federal legal tender.

Now available at SD Bullion, the California 5 Goldback Note contains 1/200 Troy oz of .9999 fine gold.

Product Highlights

  • Contains 1/200 oz of 24k gold;

  • Produced by the Aurum Mint;

  • Does not hold Federal legal tender status;

  • Housed in proper currency sleeves;

  • Advanced security features;

  • UV-reactive ink;

  • State-inspired artwork for design;

  • The reverse mirrors the obverse design.

The Design

It is standard for all Goldback Notes designs to showcase a feminine figure symbolizing a particular virtue.

The design portrays “Abundantia”, the personification of abundance, among the vineyards of Sonoma Valley, one of California’s historic wine-growing regions. She holds clusters of ripe grapes, symbolizing the prosperity cultivated through generations of dedication, patience, and careful stewardship.

A California quail appears nearby, representing the state’s natural beauty and diversity, while hidden UV artwork reveals a ladybug associated with good fortune. In the distance, Mission San Francisco Solano adds a historic element to the scene and connects the design to California’s early heritage.

The “5” denomination is inscribed near “CALIFORNIA GOLDBACKS” on top, while the engravings regarding weight and metal content are at the bottom, along with the inscription  “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”

The note displays design elements on the obverse, leaving the reverse blank and mirroring only those on the obverse.
