The Design

Goldback notes feature a feminine figure representing a cardinal virtue. The Idaho 50 Goldback embodies Patientia, the virtue of patience, depicted through Idaho’s iconic natural landscapes. Set at Redfish Lake in the Sawtooth Mountains, the scene reflects the state’s wilderness and outdoor traditions, including fishing, hiking, and skiing.

Patientia is shown fly fishing in crystal-clear mountain waters, surrounded by local wildlife such as cutthroat trout, an osprey, and a moose. The design emphasizes the time, care, and respect required to engage with nature. The “50” denomination is inscribed near “IDAHO GOLDBACKS,” with the gold weight and content noted at the bottom alongside the inscription: “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently.” As with all Goldbacks, the reverse mirrors the obverse artwork.
