The Design

Goldback notes feature a female figure representing a cardinal virtue. The Idaho 100 Goldback embodies Libertas, the virtue of freedom, symbolized through effort, responsibility, and independence. Set at Shoshone Falls, the figure carries a shovel to reflect hard work and self-reliance, while the powerful waterfall behind her evokes the natural forces that shaped the state.

The design also celebrates Idaho’s agricultural transformation through irrigation, depicting farmland, a crop duster, and abundant crops, alongside state symbols and a soaring eagle to reinforce themes of vision and independence. The “100” denomination is inscribed near “IDAHO GOLDBACKS,” with the gold weight and content noted at the bottom alongside the inscription: “A blessing upon all that thou settest thine hand unto.” As with all Goldbacks, the reverse mirrors the obverse artwork.
