The Arizona 100 Goldback Note is one of the most recent releases of this denomination in the Aurum Mint’s Goldback Note Series.
Goldback notes are voluntary local currencies that may be accepted as payment in specific US states. Though they lack Federal legal tender, vendors may accept them based on their perceived value.

The Design
Goldback Notes receive a standard design that showcases a feminine figure representing a cardinal virtue.
This artwork portrays “Libertas,” who embodies “Liberty” and Navajo strength, wearing traditional adornments and holding a spear. At the same time, eagles soar overhead and Marines move among the desert landscape, reflecting vigilance, freedom, and sacrifice.
The design also features the seal of the Navajo Code Talker Museum, affirming the Navajo Nation’s role in preserving this legacy, alongside the enduring principle: “Our language was our strongest weapon.”
The Window Rock, Arizona, seat of the Navajo Nation, honors the story of the Navajo Code Talkers from World War II. A Code Talker is depicted in full Marine uniform, radio in hand, symbolizing the hundreds of Navajo Marines who created and transmitted an unbreakable code in their native language, used in every major Pacific operation, including over 800 flawless messages during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The historic Iwo Jima flag rises behind him, representing the victories made possible through their service.
The “100” denomination is inscribed near “ARIZONA GOLDBACKS,” with the gold weight and content noted at the bottom.
The note displays design elements on the obverse, leaving the reverse blank and mirroring them.
Goldback Notes
A Goldback is a regional currency accepted for payment in specific locations within the United States.
Goldback notes hold no dollar legal tender. However, as they are made from .999 pure gold paint applied to a plastic film, they are valued as bullion.
Despite being shaped like regular currency notes, their sizes range from 1/2000th oz to 1/10th oz, and their denominations can vary from 1/2 to 100, proportionally to their gold content.
