The Design

The obverse portrays Adolph A. Weinman's “Winged Liberty” design, originally imprinted on the Mercury Dime. 

The design showcases Lady Liberty’s left profile wearing a winged Phrygian cap. It also contains the word “LIBERTY” at the top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the artist's initials, the year of mintage, and the “W” mint mark from the West Point branch.

Inspired by the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal, the reverse was also designed by Weinman. 

It depicts a Bald Eagle perched on a cliff edge, holding a branch. Further engravings read “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” the coin’s face value “$25,” the weight and purity “1 OZ Pd .9995 FINE,” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
