2025 NGC MS-70 Early Release 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin
Fractional US Gold Eagles are contemporary to the one-ounce gold coin. They were released in 1986, a little after the premiere of the American Eagle Program with the 1 oz coin.
1/2 oz is the largest fractional option and features the series’ standard design and purity levels. It showcases Augustus Saint-Gaudens’s Liberty design and Jenni Norris’ Eagle.
All US Gold Eagles are struck from 22k. Following the series’ pattern regarding purity, this coin, in particular, contains a full 1/2 oz of gold content. The alloy includes 3% silver and 5,33% copper for added durability.
SD Bullion offers 2025 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle coins purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of their official release and graded as MS-70 by NGC.

The Design
The obverse design was rescued from the Double Eagle Coin, created by Augustus Saint Gaudens in 1905.
It shows Lady Liberty walking forward, enlightened by the sun rays in her background, with the US Capitol on her feet, heading to the future. She carries a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing light and peace.
It also contains the word “LIBERTY” and the year of issuance.
The reverse showcases a left-profile close-up of a Bald Eagle with a hooked beak and deep gaze, designed by Jennie Norris.
Besides the two standard mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” engraved beneath “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” further inscriptions read “25 DOLLARS” for the denomination, and “½ OZ FINE GOLD,” for weight and metal content.
An NGC MS-70 Early Releases Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) operates independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins. Utilizing the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70, they meticulously assess coins based on their condition.
According to NGC, “Early Releases” refers to coins purchased from their original mints within the first 30 days of their official release and submitted to its appraisal.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
