The 2025 strike of the Australian Perth Mint’s Lunar Series III pays tribute to the Snake, the sixth Astrological Sign from the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

The Lunar Series III comprises platinum, gold, and silver coins of varied sizes, with the 1 Troy oz sample as the series' standard silver coin. In addition to the bullion version, Proof 1 oz Silver Coins enhance the collection by providing these coins with a brilliant luster from the proof finish.

The 2025 1 oz Year of the Snake Silver Proof Coin also marks the premiere of King Charles III’s effigy on the obverse of the series.

The Design

The snake depicted on the reverse is wrapped around a bamboo trunk and is accompanied by the Chinese character for "Snake" and its English translation, the year of issuance "2025," and a subtle "P" mint mark on the left for the Perth Mint. 

The obverse, crafted by Dan Thorne, portrays King Charles III, encircled by the inscriptions "CHARLES III" and "AUSTRALIA" at the top and "1 oz 9999 Ag" and "1 DOLLAR" at the bottom, indicating the coin’s weight, purity, metal, and face value.

Because it is a proof coin, the blank surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which makes an interesting contrast to the frosted design elements.

The Year of the Snake

The Chinese Zodiac is composed of 12 signs that rotate annually over a 12-year cycle.

In 2025, the Year of the Snake returns, having previously occurred in 2013, 2001, 1989, and earlier. People born in these years are often characterized by their mysterious, wise, and compassionate nature.
