The Design

The reverse depicts the Roaring Lion, a crowned Lion with a wide-open mouth as if roaring. It is identified as the Lion of Judah because of the Aleph Tav Symbol את engraved on the crown, overlapping a regal-floral background pattern.

The hidden message from the Scriptures is usually inscribed on the crown band.

Additional inscriptions describing weight and purity read: “ONE TROY OUNCE” and “.9999 FINE GOLD”. 

The obverse is imprinted with the Coat of Arms of Niue, the nation that makes the coins legal tender. Niue is a self-governed country associated with New Zealand.

The inscriptions accompanying the seal refer to the coin's face value of “250 DOLLARS” and the year of mintage.
