Developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program honors comic book art as a uniquely American cultural tradition.

This special series celebrates legendary heroes who reflect the ideals and values at the heart of the nation. The inaugural release features Superman™ and his alter ego, Clark Kent™, representing enduring symbols of hope, bravery, and strength.

In addition to 1 oz and 2.5 oz silver medals, the US Mint prepared a 24k 1/2 oz proof gold coin crafted in the West Point Mint, which holds legal tender status.

The Design

The designs were crafted by Joseph Menna, a former DC artist and now the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, whose initials appear on the artwork.

The obverse presents a striking portrayal of Superman™ flying high above the farm where his adoptive family raised him. The glowing sun illuminates the surrounding fields, representing the supportive upbringing of his youth and the energy that fuels his remarkable abilities.

It is inscribed with the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the year of issuance, and the West Point “W” mint mark.

The reverse depicts a young Clark Kent alongside his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, on their family farm. Clark looks skyward at a passing plane, filled with wonder, as Jonathan observes him with a calm pride.

The accompanying engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, “$50, “1/2 OZ.” “.9999 FINE GOLD,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Because it is a proof coin, the blank surfaces reflect a mirror-like luster while the design elements are imprinted in a matte finish.
