2024-W CAC MS-70 First Day Of Delivery 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin

American Gold Eagles are the United States’ official gold bullion coin. They premiered in the bullion market in 1986 with their counterpart, the Silver Eagle Coin.

Gold Eagles are 22k gold coins produced by the US Mint in varied sizes and finishes.

These coins, in particular, are burnished versions, struck in the West Point branch, and carry the “W” mint mark. The blanks used in their production underwent a special process called burnishing, which cleans them from undesired oxides, resulting in a satin finish with more vivid design details.

Today, you can find at SD Bullion 2024-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles, taken among those available for purchase in the US Mint on day #1, sealed and certified by CAC as an MS-70 coin.

The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, in a symbol of the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment.

She is accompanied by the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year. The “W” mint mark is on the right.

On the reverse, the majestic bald eagle was depicted in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and a highlighted hooked beak.

The engraved information read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS,” describing weight, metal content, and face value.

Burnished Coins

A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.

A CAC MS-70 First Day of Delivery Coin

CAC – Certified Acceptance Corporation is globally renowned for appraising coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70, apart from sovereign mints.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.

CAC considers “First Day of Delivery” a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day it was made publicly available.
