2024 PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue Morgan Dollar Silver Coin - Morgan Dollar Label

The US Mint produced the Morgan Silver Dollars, named after their designer George T. Morgan, from 1878 to 1904 and once more in 1921. 

These coins represent America's westward expansion and industrial growth during the 19th century, a period marked by significant change and progress. 

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the last circulating minting, the US Mint issued a limited edition commemorative bullion version in 2021, continuing the legacy of these captivating silver coins.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty’s bust, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." 

It also features the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the year of issuance. 

The reverse showcases a Bald Eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. 

The accompanying engravings are "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR."

A PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue Coin 

PCGS (Professional Coins Grading Service) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.

PCGS considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release.
