2024 PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue Morgan Dollar Silver Coin

The US Mint crafted Morgan Silver Dollars, named after their designer George T. Morgan, from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921.

They symbolize America's westward expansion and industrial growth during the 19th century, a time of significant change and advancement. 

To mark the 100th anniversary of the final minting of the circulating coin, the US Mint released a commemorative bullion version in 2021, maintaining a limited issuance of these captivating silver coins since 2023.

The Design

The obverse, designed by George T. Morgan, depicts Lady Liberty facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed with "LIBERTY." 

The image is surrounded by the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the year of issuance. 

On the reverse, a Bald Eagle with outstretched wings holds arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. Above the eagle's head is the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," while "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle the entire design.

A PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue Coin 

PCGS (Professional Coins Grading Service) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.

PCGS considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release.
