The Design

The obverse features King Charles III’s effigy surrounded by the engravings “10 DOLLARS,” “CHARLES III,” and “COOK ISLANDS,” referring to the coin’s face value and to the nation that ensures its legal tender status.

After that, the image is repeatedly encircled by different tribal patterns usually connected to African symbols.

On the reverse side, sequential stripes are imprinted in ultra-high relief from a facial close-up of an elephant overlapping an adorned surface. The engravings on this side read “SAVANNA POWER, 2024.”

As a trademark of the coin, the corners of the strips that form the elephant shape the upper side of the coin.

Because it is a proof coin, the blank surface exhibits a mirror-like luster while the design elements are matte, making an alluring contrast.
