The Design

The Centenario of Mexican Independence, achieved in 1821, is the central motif of this series. 

The one-ounce coin displays eleven versions of the national seal. The current seal, surrounded by the words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS,” is the central image, while the others surrounding it are previous versions. The standard image depicts an eagle defeating a rattlesnake, symbolizing Mexico's triumph over foreign dominance.

The reverse features Victoria, the Roman goddess of Victory who personifies the free nation that became a 17-foot statue atop the monument in Mexico City. 

The inscriptions on this side provide details about the coin’s weight, metal content, year of issuance, and purity: “1 ONZA ORO PURO,” “2024,” and “LEY .999.” The "M" mint mark aside indicates the Mexican Mint issuance.

Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are frosted, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved.
