2024 ¼ oz The Seymour Unicorn Gold Coin - Tudor Beast Series

The Royal Mint honors British royal ancestry by manufacturing coins displaying modern versions of the stone statues from the Hampton Court Palace.

The Tudor Beast presents its fourth edition of silver, platinum, and gold coins of varied sizes. 

The Gold Tudor Beast comes in two sizes of coins: the one-ounce and the quarter-ounce gold coins, made of 999.9 pure gold.

Coin Highlights

The Design

The newly designed version of the Seymour Unicorn presented in the reverse design is a creation of David Lawrence, and it showcases a Heraldic Unicorn protecting the National Seal.

The chain mail backdrop works as an animation texture and security feature. The inscriptions surrounding the image on the outer rim describe the coin’s name, weight, metal content, fineness, and year of issuance through “SEYMOUR UNICORN. 1/4 oz. 999.9. FINE GOLD. 2024” 

The obverse depicts King Charles III, as designed by Martin Jennings. The King’s left-profile bust is encircled by “CHARLES III,” “25 POUNDS,” referring to the coin’s monetary denomination, and the Latin letters “D.G.REX.F.D.,” which means “Dei Gracia Rex,” by the Grace of God, King.

The Tudor Beast Series

The construction of the ten statues representing the beasts of British Royal ancestry happened during Henri VIII’s reign, the second Tudor of the dynasty, in the Palace Moat’s Bridge.

The Seymour Unicorn, the fourth beast featured in the series, represents the union of Henri VIII and Jane Seymour. The other nine beasts are The Bull of Clarence, The Seymour Panther, The Lion of England, the Yale of Beaufort, the Tudor Dragon, the Greyhound of Richmond, the Royal Dragon, the Queen's Panther, and the Queen’s Lion.
