2024 ½ oz Year of the Dragon Silver Coin - Lunar Series III 

The Lunar Series III is a broad coin collection including platinum, gold, and silver coins ranging from tiny 1/20 oz to giant 10-kilo coins. 

The half-ounce sample is the smallest among the silver coins. It carries the series’ pattern features and may be perfect for those who prefer collecting smaller pieces.

2024 is the fifth edition of the series, and, following the Chinese Calendar, it is the Year of the Dragon, the fifth sign of its zodiac.

According to Chinese culture, the Dragon will bring strength and good fortune to the coming year. Therefore, 2024 is expected to bring luck, prosperity, wisdom, and magic.

The Design

Following the series’ standard design, the half-ounce silver coins display a unique reverse design of the Dragon.

The mystic creature has a frontal close-up depiction, with water cascading from its mouth, twisted body, and paws, and holds a pearl, a sign of its millenary wisdom.

The inscriptions engraved beneath the Dragon’s portrait correspond to its Chinese symbol, “DRAGON 2024,” and “P125, ” a reference to the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint.

The obverse showcases a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II dating back to 1995. It is a right-profile bust of the Queen wearing the Diadem State Crown, created by artist Jody Clark.

Engravings surrounding the portrait read “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1/2 OZ 9999 Ag,” and “50 CENTS,” referring to the Queen’s reigning period, the coin’s origin, weight, fineness, metal content, and face value.
