The Design

In 2021, the Silver Eagle design went through updates as a tribute to the American Eagle Program’s 35th anniversary.

Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty obverse design got further details from the image’s original depiction, including the addition of the artist’s initials.

Lady Liberty walks toward the sun, enveloped in the American flag, carrying laurel and oak branches on her left arm while she welcomes new incomers to American soil with a stretched right arm. 

The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on top, “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the right, and the year of mintage at the bottom. 

The reverse design created by Emily Damstra showcases a more natural Bald Eagle preparing to land with an oak branch in its talons.

The image is encircled by the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” right above “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” 

Mintage

As a standard for the series, American Silver Eagles weigh 1 Troy oz of .999 fine silver and are 40,60mm in diameter. They have legal tender status and a USD 1 denomination.

As part of the 2021 update, the US Mint included reeded edge variations to avoid counterfeiting.

This American Silver Eagle Proof Coin was produced in the San Francisco branch and features the characteristic “S” mintmark on the reverse design.

Proof coins display mirror-like background surfaces and matte finish design elements due to specially treated planchets and dies used in the coinage process.

The Mint Box

The coin is housed in an original US Mint box. It consists of a blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

The US Mint logo and the primary description of the coin are stamped on the box lid in elegant silver lettering.
