The Design

The obverse showcases Augustus Saint-Gaudens' design in which Lady Liberty is marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The march symbolizes the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment. 

The image also contains the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year.

The reverse displays Jennie Norris’ majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and a highlighted hooked beak.

The inscriptions supplementing the design are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD—10 DOLLARS,” describing weight, metal content, and face value.
