2023 NGC MS-70 Early Release 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin

Investors keen on reasonable investment opportunities may prefer physical gold bullion items from prominent mints. These companies usually offer high-quality products with modern protection against counterfeiting and follow the most demanding rules of the bullion market.

For those who do not feel like searching for mints but desire to make safer inputs, NGC-certified gold coins may be an exciting option.

Services like the NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company, provide coins and other collectibles with an internationally recognized certification that indicates the item’s condition and authenticity.

Several gold coins in the market are submitted to this grading system. These American Gold Eagles, for example, from the first 30 days of production, were graded MS-70, the highest score, by NGC. You can now purchase them online from SD Bullion.

Coin Highlights

  • The official gold bullion coin of the USA;
  • 22-carat gold (.9167 fineness);
  • Holds a face value of USD 50 and legal tender status;
  • 38th edition of the Gold Eagle coin;
  • Made in the first 30 production days;
  • With anti-counterfeiting reeded edges;
  • The obverse features Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty;
  • The reverse displays Jennie Norris’ Bald Eagle.

The Design

It is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty featured in the Gold Eagle's obverse side. Originally made for the 1907 20-Dollar Double Eagle, Lady Liberty walks forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The torch symbolizes enlightenment, the oak, peace, and the march ahead, evolution. The Capitol Building lies on the lower left, and the mintage year is on the lower right. Six-pointed stars encircle the image with the word “LIBERTY” on the upper rim.

The new Bald Eagle depiction celebrates the 35th anniversary of the program. The Eagle now has a frontal close-up with a deep gaze. Above the Eagle’s image, the inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” On the bottom rim, the inscriptions refer to the face value of “50 DOLLARS,” weight and metal content, “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.”

The NGC MS-70 Evaluation

NGC is a service for evaluating coins and alike, grading them according to the Sheldon Grading Scale. MS means that the coin analyzed has Mint State status. And 70, the highest grade, indicates that the coin is almost perfect and flawless.

The American Eagle Coin Series

The US Mint first released the Gold Eagle Coin in 1986 as a one-troy-ounce bullion coin. The Silver counterpart came months later, and together, they put the American Eagle Series in the spotlight as the most sought-after coins in the world.

The program includes fractional sizes of ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz to the gold coin, aiming to meet investors’ and collectors’ interests. The Silver Eagles remained a usual 1 oz coin with annual strikes and polishment variations with Burnished and Proof versions. The latest significant additions comprise other metal-based 1 oz coins: Platinum Eagles and Palladium Eagles.
