The Design

Augustus Saint-Gaudens' iconic Lady Liberty graces the obverse side of the 2023 Gold Eagle. 

Originally designed for the 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Gold Coin, Lady Liberty strides forward, holding a torch symbolizing enlightenment and an olive branch representing peace and progress. 

The Capitol Building appears on the lower left, with the mintage year on the lower right. It is surrounded by six-pointed stars and the word "LIBERTY" at the upper rim.

The new Bald Eagle design celebrates the series' 35th anniversary with a frontal close-up and a penetrating gaze. 

Above the Eagle are inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "IN GOD WE TRUST." On the bottom rim, the coin specifies its face value of 50 DOLLARS, weight, and metal content as "1 OZ. FINE GOLD."
