2023 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar Reverse Proof Set (Box & COA)

Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars are iconic bullion coins in the US Mint's coinage. Their mintage dates back to the 20th century, embodying an important period of American coinage history.

Because of their historical appeal, these coins are popular collectibles among coin enthusiasts worldwide.

The first two-coin set containing Silver Morgan and Peace Dollars was released in 2021 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the last strike of the Morgan Dollar and the first of the Peace Dollar coins. The success of this coin set prompted the US Mint to produce another limited strike in 2023.

The Morgan Silver Dollar Design

The coin’s moniker comes from its design creator, George T. Morgan, who designed Lady Liberty’s left profile bust, wearing a cap, flora, and a crown incused with “LIBERTY.” 

It is the original design featured in 1878.

The image is encircled by the motto “‘E PLURIBUS UNUM,”’ with thirteen five-pointed stars and the year of issuance at the bottom.

The reverse design features the eagle with outstretched wings, caring arrows, and olive branches. Laurels are beneath the eagle, with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” above its head.

“UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” are engraved on the outer rim, encircling the whole reverse design.

The imprinted “S” from the San Francisco branch is a discreet mark between the laurel and the face value inscription.

The Peace Silver Dollar Design

The Peace Dollar also displays the original debuting depiction of Lady Liberty, as designed by Anthony de Francisci in 1921. It showcases Liberty’s bust wearing a radiant crown, with the engravings “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance completing the image.

The Eagle showcased in the reverse design rests on a rock, holding an olive branch, representing peace. On this side, the inscriptions read: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”

The San Francisco mintmark on this coin appears next to the tip of the eagle’s wing and the coin’s face value.

Reverse-proof coins

Reverse-proof, as the moniker suggests, creates the opposite effect of usual proof coins. They have a frosted background with mirror-like design elements.

Coin Capsules

The coins are cased in capsules designed to protect the coin as safely as possible. These capsules may contain small contact marks but the capsules do not affect the value of the overall item or the coins themselves.
