The Design

The obverse showcases the various versions of the nation’s seal. The current Coat of Arms is in the center, surrounded by the words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” In all of them, the Eagle defeats the rattlesnake as a symbol of the Mexican conquest from foreign dominance.

The reverse is a portrait of the Winged Victory, a 17-foot statue atop the monument dedicated to this landmark in Mexico City. The words engraved read: “1 ONZA ORO PURO”, “2023,” and “LEY .999”, which stands for weight, metal content, issuance, and purity levels.

Because it is a proof coin, it has received a special polish so that the background surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, contrasting with frosted design elements.
