The Design

The obverse remains the debuting design, which features Lady Liberty with the American flag draped on her shoulder and oak branches in one arm as she walks toward the sun’s rays.

The word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “W” West Point mint mark, and the year of issuance are included.

Burnished Coins

A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than the Proof version.
