PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Service, is one of the world’s most trusted coin grading companies. Founded in 1985, PCGS has established high standards for each coin they have graded since then. The 2021 PCGS PR-70 First Strike Type 2 American Silver Eagle Proof is a First Strike coin, meaning the coin was struck within the first 30 days of issue. The PR-70 indicates the highest grade, meaning the coin has no visible flaws. Lastly, the proof coin indicates it was struck in a way that gave it a higher level of detail and mirror-like finish. Minted by the United States Mint, they offer the unmatched quality that the precious metals market has come to expect from its products.

Each coin is stuck with .999 fine silver and is backed by the U.S. Government with a face value of $1 USD. A label on the top of the coin displays the grade, year of issue, face value, and name of the coin, which is packed and sealed in an official PCGS plastic slab. Furthermore, the tamper-proof packaging guarantees that the grade assigned to the coin corresponds to the coin included in the plastic slab.

2021 Design Update

To commemorate the 35 year anniversary of the American Silver Eagle, the U.S. Mint changed the reverse design on the gold and silver coins. The old design features a depiction of a bald eagle on the famous Heraldic Eagle form, with a shield along with stripes in front of it. The new design presents a bald eagle amidst flight, embracing an oak branch in its talons.
