The Design

Additional engravings include the word “LIBERTY” in front of the Native’s forehead, the year of mintage, and an “F,” referring to the artist’s initials.
The reverse names the coin. A giant American Bison in an upstanding depiction covers most of the surface, resembling a Buffalo.
It features the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “$50,” and “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD,” referring to the coin’s denomination, weight, fineness, and metal content.
A PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue coin
Coin grading services like PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraise and grade coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, depending on their condition.
MS means Mint State, referring to coins fabricated with the same shape as a popular business coin that remained uncirculated. 70, the highest grade on the scale, is for a coin with no visible flaws.
According to PCGS, “First Day of Issue” corresponds to a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day of its official release and submitted to NGC appraisal.
