The New Design
The old and new combine with the brand new design on the 2021 American Silver Eagle (BU, Type 2).
The 2021 American Silver Eagle Coin (BU, Type 2) features the same obverse face of the classic American Eagle coin. This face features Lady Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon. This design was first featured on the half dollar first issued by the United States Mint in 1916. The mint year and words “IN GOD WE TRUST” are featured on this face.
The reverse face features the eagerly awaited new design. This face features designer Emily Damtra's depiction of a bald eagle - America's national bird - in its natural state, amidst flight, while enveloping an oak branch between its talons. The words “United States of America,” “One Dollar” “1 oz. Fine Silver'' all encircle the majestic bird. The classic words of “E Pluribus Unum '' are also featured around the bird.
The obverse face features a “W” beneath the words “In God We Trust.” This W is a tribute to Adolph A. Weinman, the artist who designed the original Lady Liberty featured on this face. If there were a letter on the reverse side beneath the bald eagle, this would indicate the mint in which the coin was struck. For example, a “W” would mean the coin was minted at West Point Mint.
