2020 NGC MS-70 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin - Mike Castle Label

One of the coins that compose the US Gold Eagle Series is the 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle.

The US Mint released fractional counterparts for the debuting 1 oz US Gold Eagle and included them as regular strikes in the collection in 1986, a little after the American Eagle Program premiere.

1/2 oz Gold Eagles are legal tender with a face value of 25 US dollars and display the series’ standard design that reflects the core principles outlined by the Founding Fathers in the US Constitution.

These coins, in particular, were graded as MS-70 samples by NGC and sealed with Congressman Mike Castle’s signature label.

Mike Castle, former Governor of Delaware and member of the US House of Representatives, is directly responsible for some of the most essential US coin programs, such as the 50 State Quarters Program, the Sacagawea Dollar, the Presidential Dollar Series, the American Platinum Eagle, America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, and others.

The Design

The obverse displays Lady Liberty walking forward, with the US Capitol on her feet, heading to the future. The torch and the olive branch she carries mean light and peace for the upcoming years. 

It also features the engraving “LIBERTY” on the upper rim and the year of issuance on the bottom. 

The reverse portrays a family of Bald Eagles, in which a female eagle cherishes its hatchling under her wing while the male perches their nest. 

Inscriptions regarding weight, metal content, and face value read “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS.” The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” supplement the imagery.
