The 2020 Silver Australian Koala is the 13th coin in this popular line as the first Perth Silver Koala Coin was released in 2007 by the Perth Mint.
The Australian Perth Mint was built in 1899 originally as a branch of the British Royal Mint. It wasn’t until 1970 that the mint came under the jurisdiction of the Government of Western Australia. The Perth Mint remains one of the oldest mints still operating at its original location.
The 2020 Silver Koala features a side profile of Queen Elizabeth II by royal mint designer Jody Clark as denoted by the initials “JC” that can be seen in the bottom left corner of the profile. Inscribed around the border of the coin are the words “ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA” as well as the monetary denomination of the coin “1 DOLLAR”.
On the reverse of the coin is the new koala design for 2020. This year the coin shows a Koala holding onto a tree branch. The words “AUSTRALIAN KOALA” are inscribed above the image and the “P” mint mark of the Perth Mint can also be seen here. Along the bottom of the coin is the inscription “2020 1oz 9999 SILVER”
