2019-W PCGS PR-70 First Strikes 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Reverse Proof Coin - Black Label
The US Mint introduced the American Eagle Program in 1986 in the numismatic market. Since then, its bullion coins have ranked among the world's most sought-after coins worldwide.
The program annually delivers American Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Eagles, which were added to the series later in 2017.
Palladium Eagles are equally legal tender and weigh 1 Troy oz of 99.95% pure palladium.
This particular coin is from the 2019 edition, taken from those made publicly available for purchase within the first 30 days of its official release. It was minted at the West Point branch and bears the “W” mint mark. It is a reverse-proof coin, giving it a distinctive design.

The Design
The obverse reproduces Adolph A. Weinman's “Winged Liberty” design, initially imprinted on the Mercury Dime.
It portrays Lady Liberty’s left-profile bust in a winged Phrygian cap. It is accompanied by the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the artist's initials, the year of mintage, and the “W” mint mark from the West Point branch.
The 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal inspired the reverse design, which showcases a Bald Eagle perched on a cliff edge, holding a branch.
The inscriptions on this side include “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” the coin’s face value “$25,” the weight and purity “1 OZ Pd .9995 FINE,” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Because it is a reverse-proof coin, it displays frosted background fields while the design elements have a mirror-like luster.
A PCGS PR-70 First Strikes Coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) operates independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins. Utilizing the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70, they meticulously assess coins based on their condition.
PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes that exhibits much sharper detail than regular or business strikes. In this case, 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
To PCGS, “First Strikes” refers to coins purchased from their original mints within the first 30 days of their official release and submitted to its appraisal.
